On October 3, 2024, Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana hosted an exceptional event featuring Pascale Delpech, the wife of Danilo Kiš and the translator of all his works into French. Known for her profound understanding of Kiš’s literary legacy, Delpech offered invaluable insights into his poetic vision, creative process, and the enduring relevance of his works. The conversation, led by Prof. Dr. Svetlana Slapšak, explored Kiš’s role as a translator, his influence on European literature, and the challenges of preserving his legacy in the global literary canon. Delpech also shared personal anecdotes and professional reflections on her work as the custodian of Kiš’s intellectual and cultural heritage.
This event was part of the Slavic Soundwalking project, organized by the Cultural Center "Danilo Kiš" in collaboration with partners from Croatia and Serbia. The project is supported by Creative Europe CED Slovenia, the Ministry of Public Administration, JSKD (Public Fund of the Republic of Slovenia for Cultural Activities), the Municipality of Ljubljana, and Cankarjev dom. The audience left with a renewed appreciation for the timeless significance of Danilo Kiš’s work and the vital role of translation in bridging cultures.
